Data centres could turn to GO and PPA markets to fulfil new sustainability reporting requirements

On 15 March 2024, the European Commission adopted a new delegated regulation aiming to establish a common Union scheme for data centres’ sustainability rating with an installed information technology power demand of at least 500 kW. Market-based approach to report renewable energy consumption is upheld, with demand-side implications for the guarantees of origin (GO) and power purchase agreement (PPA) markets.
