 In total, 2.1 TWh of GOs related to production from January to December 2022 were auctioned (-53.7% compared to the previous auction, but +23.9% compared to January 2022 auction), corresponding to the electricity produced by the RES power plants that benefit from the “dedicated withdrawal” by GSE and are granted feed-in tariffs. The auction revenues are used to reduce the cost sustained by electricity consumers to promote renewable energy.

IT 1st auction 2023

, the total auctioned volumes went significantly down. Solar offered GOs dropped by 1,880 GWh, equivalent to -85%. Only Hydro offered GOs saw increase in volumes, with +191 GWh offered (+39%).

Only 67.38% of the auctioned volumes were sold, but with 100% for Biomass, Solar and close to (99.91%) for Wind. The main drop comes from unsold Hydro volumes for the March-December period (third lot) where surprisingly none of the 679.1 GWh were sold.

GO prices moved from -1.8 (Hydro) to +52% (Wind), compared to the previous auction. Wind GOs saw the highest increase (and second-highest decrease in auctioned volumes, in %) from the previous auction. Compared to the previous auction, prices therefore increased on average by 1.37 Euro (+24%). If we match January 2023 prices with January 2022 (with less volumes sold in Jan 22), the evolution is spectacular: +6.4 Euros on average for all technologies, translating into an average of 636% of increase.

Prices have thus been multiplied by more than seven in a year!
