 to the Parliament and Council on 23 February 2022. This Directive will complement the recently adopted Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) by adding a substantive corporate duty for some companies to perform due diligence to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for external harm resulting from adverse human rights and environmental impacts in a company’s own operations, its subsidiaries and in the value chain. The CSDDD would strengthen the legal and policy framework on corporate sustainability in the EU.

From a GO perspective, an important element of the current iteration of the CSDDD is that it would make it mandatory for large companies to adopt transition plans; to ensure that their business models and strategies are compatible with the transition to a sustainable economy and with the limiting of global warming to 1.5 °C in line with the Paris Agreement. This would supplement the CSRD where no such mandatory obligation exists. As explained in
